Welcome to Bethulie

Bethulie Old Station

The station was in use since 1894 and the railway linked East London to Bethulie. English officers, Emily Hobhouse, Hendrina Rabie and many other well-known people stopped over here. It is also the place where the women and children were offloaded from the train trucks during the ABW and whence they walked 4km to the concentration camp. The Station is now private property

Fortifications and Rice fortresses

Rice fortifications with cannons and other entrenchments were established during the siege of Bethulie. Remains of these fortifications can still be found on the two koppies at the northeastern side of the village.
